A work inspired by a First Nations story from WA’s Kimberley region is a highlight of the Australian String Quartet’s online season, ASQ Live at UKARIA, streaming in weekly episodes and online until the end of October.

Paul Stanhope’s String Quartet No.3 took the stage on Sunday at UKARIA Cultural Centre in the Adelaide Hills.

Hosted by Johanna Allen, the series will feature South Australian guests including luthiers, street-artists, chefs and entrepreneurs.

Episodes are about 45 minutes long and premiere on Sundays at 1.30pm, mixing lifestyle programming and live-performance with sports broadcasts.

Next Sunday, August 16, will feature pianist Konstantin Shamray in Dvořák’s Piano Quintet. Shamray will play Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto with WA Symphony Orchestra in November.

ASQ artists will also be involved in presenting and next Sunday will feature cellist Sharon Grigoryan interviewing celebrity cook Maggie Beer.

This will be the final year at ASQ for Grigoryan, one of Australia’s best known cellists, who wants more time with her family, including a project with classical guitarist husband, Slava Grigoryan.

“The last seven years have been filled with joy, challenges, excitement, love, and top music making,” Grigoryan said. “I have made so many friends from around the country, and have learnt so much about life thanks to this job. Coincidentally, it has also been seven years that I have been together with my husband, and it is now time to make a shift in my priorities to be able to spend more time with him and my little boy.”
