Helen Reddy: Australian singer of I Am Woman dies in Los Angeles after dementia battle

Iconic Australian singer Helen Reddy has died aged 78.

The singer was best known for her hit song I Am Woman, which won her a Grammy award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance in 1973.

Reddy’s family put out a statement on the singer’s official fan Facebook page a short time ago.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Helen Reddy, on the afternoon of September 29th 2020 in Los Angeles,” the statement said.

“She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and a truly formidable woman. Our hearts are broken. But we take comfort in the knowledge that her voice will live on forever.”

Reddy was diagnosed with dementia in 2015.
