Skippers and crews at Princess Royal Sailing Club welcomed the ideal sailing conditions in Saturday’s harbour and King George Sound events.

It was a relief to many considering the dreadful weather the week prior with 30-knot winds, cold and rain.

Fine and sunny weather with a southerly breeze that didn’t get above 12 knots last Saturday.

Division 1, still very low in numbers, had the closest-ever finish on corrected time for a long time.

Murray Deere in Wild One was pitted against Geoff Oliver in his smaller Excitabull in their King George Sound encounter.

Deere had to give Oliver time and he had Wild One out in front early.

Excitabull was doing well as they headed off into the sound and re-entering the harbour Wild One was still the leader with Excitabull battling to close the gap.

Deere crossed the finish line to record a win by a mere one second and also to attain fastest time.

In division 2 Stephen Lee was back in the action with Flasheart and had his hands full with the likes of Stephen Brown in Mary Maitland and Neil Worrell in Zuri.

These two smaller yachts were able to stay with Flasheart for the first hour before Lee puled away in the sound for a comfortable win.

Brown and Worrell fought for second place and although Worrell was finishing quickly Brown just scrapped in to take the spot.

Three Flying Fifteens had an interesting tussle over their harbour course.

Simon Lucas put FForever Young out in front right from the start and stayed there throughout with Aileen Lucas skippering Crazy lying in second place for the entire race with Wayne North in Frequent Flyer in third place.

The gap between the three didn’t appear to change much.

FForever Young kept up the pace and finished 10 seconds ahead of Crazy which took second place and 40 seconds ahead of Frequent Flyer which recorded its best finish to date.

Two Vipers competed in a match race over a harbour course.

Tom Mears was at the helm of Fang with Duncan Ray his opponent in Alice.

It was close throughout but Mears had the better of Duncan to win the race that counted by a minute.

The Viper boys’ then match raced twice more with each skipper winning a heat apiece.
