The RSPCA is investigating after a cat reportedly died after being hit with an arrow.

The report centres around a one-year-old pet, which apparently turned up at the back door of a Port Kennedy property with an arrow in its body.

The cat was apparently found at 4pm, bleeding and barely alive and died from its injuries.

RSPCA WA general manager Ben Cave confirmed it was investigating the reports.

“RSPCA WA is deeply concerned to hear about another intentional act of cruelty towards a pet cat in one of our suburbs,” he said.

“Unfortunately, acts like this are not uncommon.

“In the past three years, there have been three other well-publicised cases of cats shot with arrows in Perth’s outer suburbs.

“In all three of those cases, the cats thankfully survived their ordeal. It is heartbreaking to hear that this cat couldn’t be saved.”

A cat named Beau was found with an arrow through its neck in Ellenbrook in 2018, and survived its injuries. The animal was later adopted by a new family.

Last year, the RSPCA received more than 500 reports about intentional acts of cruelty towards animals in Western Australia - up 31 per cent on 2018.

Ben Cave said animal cruelty was a serious criminal act. Those found guilty could face a maximum $50,000 fine or five years in prison.

“People who live in the Port Kennedy area should keep an eye on their pets, keep them indoors where possible, and remain vigilant, as we don't want this happening to other animals,” he said.

The incident occurred in the area surrounding Port Kennedy boat ramp and anyone with information is urged to report it by calling 1300 278 3589.
