Donnybrook have convincingly beaten a sluggish Busselton side to boost their chances of a finals berth for 2022.

The Dons hosted the Magpies on Sunday and kept them goalless for two out of the four quarters, eventually winning 10.10 (70) to 3.9 (27).

The home side started strongly, with Sean Lynch and Ben Howlett playing with a point to prove to see their side lead 5.5 (35) to 0.2 (2) at the first break.

After quarter-time, Busselton began to show signs of life, with Damian Lee, Jackson Arbon and Ethan Bowman doing their best to chip away at the already imposing lead of the Dons.

The visitors won the second term two goals to one and headed into the break trailing 6.6 (42) to 2.4 (16).

But any momentum the Magpies had in the second term was quickly lost as Donnybrook began to play a fearsome brand of football which became to much for the travelling team.

Donnybrook forward Jeffrey Smith’s height and strength made it almost impossible for the Busselton defenders to compete in the air and the home side led 9.10 (64) to 2.4 (16) at the last change.

The Magpies did their best to salvage some pride in the last term but inaccuracy in front of goals stopped any chance of an unlikely comeback.

The visitors won the final term but could not convert their opportunities as the Dons claimed the 10.10 (70) to 3.9 (27) win.
