The Liberal party says if elected it will spend $10 million to complete the Wadandi Track between Busselton and Augusta.

The opposition’s commitment is part of an $81.3 million Statewide plan to support the rapid growth of cycling in WA.

The plan also includes funding for the Whicher Range mountain bike trails and an extension of the Dunsborough to Yallingup dual-use path.

Deputy leader Libby Mettam said the $10m commitment for the Wadandi track aimed to create a high-standard trail through natural bushland, vineyards, and farmland.

“The path between Cowaramup and Witchcliffe is already enjoyed by cyclists and walkers, and the completion of the former railway line will create a world-class track,” Ms Mettam said.

The Vasse MLA said funding to extend the dual-use pathway from Dunsborough to Yallingup was a valuable part of the plan to build on to the previous Liberal-led government’s Busselton to Dunsborough dual path.

“There has been large community support to extend dual-use pathway from Dunsborough to Yallingup which promotes an active and healthy lifestyle for residents and visitors to this popular destination,” she said.

Liberal Leader Zak Kirkup said WA was the No.1 State for cycling, with 400,000 West Australians riding a bike each week.

“The past year has seen an even bigger uptake in the number of people cycling, with a survey between April and June last year finding an extra 77,000 West Australians were riding bikes compared to the same time the previous year,” he said.

“Cycling is a great activity for families and friends to enjoy together, and the Liberals are committed to supporting and investing in this initiative to create a safer, smarter today for a better, brighter tomorrow.”

Mr Kirkup said the plan would boost cycling activity across the State and would contribute to the Liberal Party’s goal of creating 200,000 new jobs over the next five years.
