Coronavirus crisis: Health Minister Roger Cook reveals WA has 28 new COVID-19 cases, bringing State total to 392

A four-year-old child is one of 28 new WA cases of coronavirus, bringing the State’s total to 392.

Health Minister Roger Cook revealed this morning that 19 of the patients were in metropolitan hospitals and 14 of them are in intensive care units.

Of the new cases, 19 are from the metropolitan area and nine from regional areas.

They are aged between 4 and 69-years-old.

Seven are from overseas, nine are healthcare workers and three were former cruise ship travellers.

Mr Cook said 12 passengers still aboard the Artania would be moved to a hotel or hospital depending on their status.

“Medical staff or on the ship,” he said.

“We have reports some members of the crew are unwell … we are told they are symptomatic.”

Yesterday there were only nine new reported cases of the virus after a three day decline in positives.

The increase in cases by 28 prompted Mr Cook to echo his warning from yesterday that WA was not out of the woods yet.

Mr Cook also took the opportunity to praise WA’s healthcare staff for their hard work.

“I just want to thank everyone in our healthcare services, who are doing an amazing job for us all,” he said.

Mr Cook said there was still no concrete evidence of community spread but noted 28 new cases was not as good as nine.

He said 28 was still a pleasing result and there was a “good line of sight” on where they had contracted the virus from.
