Nollamara crash: Wai Chun Wong appears in court over alleged hit-and-run death of 50yo man

A 65-year-old man has appeared in court charged over a suspected hit-and-run of a man whose body was found unresponsive on a major road in Nollamara at the weekend. Wai Chun Wong faced Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday accused of three offences including careless driving causing death and failing to stop and render assistance in relation to the incident that took place on Sunday. The 50-year-old man was discovered member of the public located unresponsive man on the road, near the intersection of Ravenswood Drive and Hillsborough Drive. Police and St John WA personnel attended the scene, however the man died at the scene. During the brief hearing, Mr Wong did not speak and needed the help of an interpreter to understand the charges against him. His lawyer, barrister Simon Watters, said his client would be applying for bail and that he understood it was not opposed by police. Magistrate Lynette Diaz granted Mr Wong bail on a $5000 personal undertaking and $5000 surety. But she said because of the seriousness of the charges that Mr Wong surrender his passport, and report to police once a week. Mr Wong is expected to appear in court in October.
