A car fire forced residents of a Fremantle unit block to flee their homes on Monday night.

Firefighters arrived at about 9.40pm to find a car in the underground carpark of the Queen Victoria Street complex alight.

It took 10 crews about 20 minutes to get control of the inferno, which was limited to the car and did not cause any structural damage to the building.
