A mobility equipment provider will visit two Mid West locations to offer trial equipment for aged care and people living with disability, allowing regional participants to try the technology in their own home.

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, AC Mobility is offering regional participants a chance to try Assistive Technology (AT) including wheelchairs, standers, walkers, toilet aids, scooters and exercise equipment in their own home instead of travelling to Perth.

Visiting Geraldton and Carnarvon from next week, AC Mobility marketing manager Julie Chandler said the equipment can assist in paediatric participants through to aged care, and is available for participants and their therapists to try.

“The purpose of our regional trip is to bring the prescription equipment — also known as Assistive Technology — to people with disabilities for trials to ensure a particular piece of AT is going to meet their needs before they purchase it,” she said.

“It may be months before it’s practical for a participant to get to our Malaga showroom, or travel may not be an option.”

Mrs Chandler said the trials were free, which meant participants could test if a product fit around their home, or whether they needed certain products to assist mobility.

“If the participant doesn’t know what they need, they tell us what they are having difficulty with, and we will assess and bring equipment that we believe will help their situation,” she said.

“We bring the equipment to their doorstep; they don’t need to do a thing. They also have their physio or OT with them during the trials, these are people they’ve built a rapport with, they know them well.

“Our occupational therapists are not sales reps, they don’t make commission on the equipment sale and their product knowledge of AT is remarkable, and they keep up to date through constant training.”

AC Mobility will be in Geraldton on May 26 and June 2 and in Carnarvon on May 27 and June 2.
