Kalgoorlie-Boulder residents have one last chance to support Gold Rush Cheer’s trip to the US at a fundraising car wash this weekend.

GRC will take a team of 42 to compete in three cheerleading competitions in Dallas and Orlando in April after almost a year of training and fundraising.

Head coach Allison Sack said this would be the first time a cheerleading team from Kalgoorlie-Boulder had competed in the US.

“Everyone is super excited to go over,” she said. “We have made team goals, realistic ones that are achievable for our team, and the parents might be more excited than the kids at the moment.”

She said the trip would be an invaluable learning experience for the local athletes. “The main thing I am hoping for is they use it as a learning experience and they bring back the knowledge they learnt over there,” she said.

“It will be everything from learning things from coaches and technical advice to learning how to manage mentally performing at that level.”

Ms Sack said several local businesses and organisations had already sponsored the trip but asked anyone who still wanted to support the athletes to attend the GRC car wash on Saturday.

“This is our last big fundraiser before we go because everyone has to pay their fees to the agent,” she said. “The first 15 cars get a free coffee voucher, so you can’t go wrong with that.”

The car wash will be held at the Church of Christ Kalgoorlie from 8am-2pm tomorrow.

Small cars cost $15 to clean and larger cars are $20.
