Juniors need umpires

The Lower South West Junior Football Association is putting the call out for umpires for the upcoming season.

Association president Carolyn Cabassi, pictured, said it needed at least one umpire working towards their accreditation on the field per game.

“This year we might be a bit on the short side,” she said.

“All of our clubs that are playing this year are calling for anybody who has some free time on their hands and would like to work towards their accreditation.”

This junior football season will be contested between Deanmill, Imperials, Tigers and Bridgetown, with games due to start this weekend.

Potential umpires would need to have a Working With Children Check, unless they have a child playing football, or are under 18 years old.

The minimum age qualification for potential umpires is that they are Year 10 students.

Mrs Cabassi said qualifying as a level one umpire was not arduous.

“They just have to be keen and have an interest in umpiring or helping out,” she said.
