All Blacks book their place in Upper Great Southern Hockey Association men’s A-grade grand final

All Blacks booked their place in the Upper Great Southern Hockey Association men’s A-grade grand final after a hard-fought win over Warriors in their semifinal clash on Saturday.

In the R U OK? round, the lead changed a number of times in a high-quality game, but it was All Blacks who prevailed 3-2.

Connor Page, Peter Aitchison and Liam Sweeney were all instrumental in the win, while Aidan Lowes, Shaun McKay and Mathew Hough battled hard for Warriors.

Riffs proved far too strong for Olympics in the other men’s semifinal clash to be the first team to progress through to the decider this weekend.

The victors were in control for a large part of the game winning 6-0 as Rohan Bilney, Dane Angwin and Grady Francis played important roles in the result.

Bradley Staphorst, Blake Heil and Ben Quartermaine were in the best for Olympics.

A goal in extra time from Williams over Warriors helped them book their place in the women’s A-grade grand final against Wagin.

Both sides had plenty of opportunities on goal and at the end of full-time the scores were level 1-1.

That would result in the game going to extra time golden goal and Warriors had a strong start and had chances to score but couldn’t convert, with Williams’ defence holding strong.

Williams got a runaway attack which resulted in a penalty corner and they scored to secure the grand final berth.

Better players in the win were Zali Spencer, Rachel Harding and Tracey Price while Kira Flynn, Chloe Buzza and Ellie Nalder were gallant in defeat.

Dumbleyung were the first team through to the men’s B-grade grand final after winning 3-1 over Pingelly.

Both teams played great games but it was Dumbleyung who prevailed.

Jake Angwin, Luke Button and Joel Watkins were impressive in the victory while for Pingelly George Hassell, Dougall Haslam and Brad Bassett battled hard.

The second game in men’s B-grade competition was between Warriors and Olympics to see who played Dumbleyung in the grand final. Both sides had numerous shots on goals but Warriors came out on top 2-1.

Steven Durrell, Ryan Hough and Josh O’Brien were named in the victors’ best while Shawn Heil, Bevan George and Steven Sexton tried hard for Olympics.

In the women’s B-grade competition All Blacks hung on against Williams to book their place in the decider.

All Blacks scored four goals before Williams scored two late goals but it wasn’t enough to get them over the line.

Emma Phillips, Bonnie Atkins and Lucy Ward starred in the win while for Williams Nyree Brown, Bronny Harding and Natalie Major were named in the best.

In the second semifinal Warriors played Wickepin in a high quality game, with Warriors prevailing 2-1.

Better players for Warriors were Sarah Oats, Amy Oats and Stacey Richards while for Wickepin Jude Corner, Lucy Kilpatrick and Chris Pettit tried hard.

Tomorrow afternoon the J7 wind-up will be held from approximately 6.30pm followed by the J11 wind-up on Saturday from 12.15pm.

The men’s B-grade game will start the senior grand finals from 1pm with the women’s A-grade grand final at 5.30pm the last game.
