Wickepin resident loses home and two dogs in early morning chimney fire

A man in his 60s has lost his two dogs and home in a horrific housefire believed to have been sparked by accident in the early hours of Friday morning. The Wickepin blaze was reported to emergency services at 3.12am on Friday with six volunteer fire and rescue crews called to the scene. The homeowner, a 65-year-old male, was unharmed but his two dogs perished in the fire and his home was entirely engulfed in flames by the time emergency crews arrived at the scene. He was treated by St John Ambulance at the scene but was not taken to hospital. Fire and rescue crews managed to contain the blaze and stop it from spreading to a neighbouring residence to the north of the home. Fire crews managed to extinguish the blaze by 6am. Williams Police say they believe the fire is non-suspicious and broke out from a chimney inside the home before spreading to the roof. Fire and rescue crews from Dumbleyung, Narrogin, Pingelly, and Cuballing attended the scene.
