Shocked onlookers were captured running to the destroyed police car after it finally came to a halt on its side in the middle of the road.

“It’s pretty damn frightening. I can feel the adrenaline in my body after seeing that,” witness Harry Block said.

Miraculously, no one was injured in the crash. The two officers crawled out of the totalled car, with one having a minor cut to his head.

The 27-year-old driver of the white van and his father who was a passenger also escaped injury in the crash.

The retail couriers had a green light at the time of the crash. Their van remains in a tow yard.

Witnesses told 7News a CAT bus was blocking the view for both the police car and van at the busy intersection, leaving a heated online debate as to who is at fault.

Police say officers are exempt from certain road rules when reasonable care is taken.

Perth Detectives are investigating the crash.
