Port Hedland Rovers down Karratha Falcons in gruelling battle

A gutsy Port Hedland Rovers downed Karratha Falcons by 13 points at Colin Matheson Oval in round three of the North Pilbara Football League season.

The game took place on April 7 with both sides battling for control in the opening term before Rovers took at seven point lead at the first break.

Rovers took their opportunities in a back-and-forth second quarter to extend their slim lead to a game-high 11 points at half time.

A fired up Falcons came out in the third quarter kicking 2.2 to the Rovers 1.1 to cut the deficit to just four points with one quarter to go.

It was Rovers who held their composure making the most of their opportunities to claim the victory in the last term while Falcons booted four behinds.

The final score was Port Hedland Rovers 9.5 (59) defeating Karratha Falcons 6.10 (46).

Meanwhile in the reserves action a rampant Rovers ran away with the victory on the back of a three goal haul by Josh Harvey.

It was an even start to the game with both sides tied on eight at the first break before Rovers found their stride.

The second term had Rovers hold a slender three point lead after battling hard against a game Falcons.

But Rovers exploded in the second half booting 5.8 to Falcons 1.3 to run away with a dominant 34 point victory.

The final scoreline was Port Hedland Rovers 9.13 (67) to Karratha Falcons 5.3 (33).
