Police are reminding South West residents to remember to lock up and follow safety advice if they are going travelling this holiday period.

Local emergency services banded together recently to host a community information session as the holiday period approached.

South West crime prevention officer Sen. Const. Neale Horsley said the information day served as a chance for people to meet the officers helping them in a crisis and to access important crime prevention advice for the Christmas and summer holidays.

For those heading away to enjoy the holiday break, Const. Horsley encouraged them to ensure their properties were secure, redirect their mail and inform their neighbours of their plans.

The information day gave residents the chance to meet the emergency service officers who work tirelessly to protect them.

Bunbury SES and St John Ambulance paramedics joined police and firefighters to help inform residents about the work they do for the community.

“A lot of them are volunteers and do this on their own time ... this can help to build bridges and put some faces to the force,” Const. Horsley said.

“Firefighters offered bushfire ready advice like the importance of an evacuation plan in rural areas and not leaving anything to the last minute. These services are crucial to the community in a time of crisis and their advice can help save lives.”
