A woman was seriously hurt in an alleged Port Hedland stabbing yesterday afternoon.

About 1.45pm police received several reports that a woman was being attacked by a man armed with a weapon on Edgar Street.

Police said they found a 41-year-old woman with several serious injuries consistent with stab wounds when they arrived at the scene.

They provided emergency first aid until St John Ambulance arrived and took the woman by ambulance to Hedland Health Campus with serious abdominal, chest and head injuries.

A man at a nearby house on Edgar Street refused to comply with police requests to exit the residence until they successfully took him into custody about 2.45pm without incident.
