Australian bowler Aaron ‘Disco’ Wilson has celebrated his massive gold medal win the only way he knew how: by throwing his shirt into the crowd.

The unique celebration came the moment the 30-year-old had sealed a convincing 21-3 win over Northern Ireland’s Gary Kelly to achieve his second Commonwealth Games gold medal on Saturday.

Wilson becomes the first athlete to successfully defend his Commonwealth title since England’s David Bryant won gold in four consecutive Games between 1962 and 1978.

Shortly after throwing his shirt into the roaring crowd and jumping for joy, Australian team members and supporters lifted Wilson into the stands to celebrate the big win.

Wilson was quick to assert dominance from the outset, racking up 12 points before Kelly responded at the 12th end with a point.

However, Kelly’s efforts were not enough to take down Wilson who ran away with the contest.

Wilson said he only had one regret after the win.

“I wish I had a better rig, but that’s life,” Wilson said after ripping off his shirt and jumping for joy in a repeat of his celebrations on the Gold Coast four years ago.

“That (body) has been well seasoned.”
