Fan favourite Regalo Di Gaetano looks on track for another stint at the All-Star Mile following his stunning victory in the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

Easy in the market at $10 the Richard and Chantelle Jolly-trained six-year-old cruised in with Zac Spain on board to chalk up three wins in a row – two of those Listed races in South Australia.

Such is the horse’s popularity that many of the connections, their friends and the community, don the silks bearing the green, white and red colours of the Italian flag which make up a big percentage of the ownership.

The horse’s current form has been so impressive that (Richard) Jolly said there was a strong chance it could be nominated for the All-Star Mile at Flemington next year (March 12, 2002), the field decided by an online public vote. The race carries prizemoney of $5m.

“The horse is really flying,’’ Jolly said.

“The odds (Eclipse Stakes) were a bit surprising but it was a good watch. I was confident in the run and especially from about the 600m.

“The horse knows where the post is and Zac (Spain) rode him so well. We were going to run him in the Ballarat Cup but the conditions didn’t suit so we targeted this race and were committed to Zac riding him there.

“I need to speak to the owners about definite plans but the All-Star Mile seems the likely option.

“The horse will be spelled now to get ready for the autumn.’’

The horse ran 11th on a heavy track in the 2021 All-Star Mile behind Mugatoo.

While the Jolly team was cheering on their star from afar at Morphettville they also enjoyed success early in the day when Hypercane defied the opposition to take out a heat of the Alcopop Series, qualifying for the $100,000 final at the twilight meeting at Morphettville on December 17.

Hypercane, which nearly died from a colic attack in March, was ridden to victory on Saturday by star Victorian apprentice Alana Kelly.

The Jolly name also was to the fore on the weekend when Richard’s brother David trained Gaze Grise to victory in a heat of the 55 Second Challenge over 955m at The Valley on Friday night.
