The countdown is officially on.

Marvel has dropped the long-awaited first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, giving fans their biggest look yet at the blockbuster set to hit cinemas on December 18...and it’s every bit as epic as expected.

The action-packed trailer brings together the next generation of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, with familiar faces and fan-favourite newcomers uniting for what could be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s biggest battle yet.

Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, takes centre stage with a rallying call to the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Wakandans, Thunderbolts and the surviving Avengers as they prepare to face Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. in one of Marvel’s most anticipated casting twists.

While the trailer keeps Doom largely in the shadows, it offers plenty of explosive action, emotional moments and teases of the multiversal showdown ahead.

Among the biggest moments is a glimpse of the battle between Thor and Doctor Doom before the trailer closes on an emotional reunion between Thor and Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, sending fans into overdrive.

The film boasts one of Marvel’s biggest ensemble casts yet, including Pedro Pascal, Florence Pugh, Anthony Mackie, Paul Rudd, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Vanessa Kirby, Channing Tatum, Simu Liu and James Marsden, while Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen reprise their iconic X-Men roles.
