It was a full house at the Albany Entertainment Centre on Friday as hundreds huddled into theatre seats to watch the familiar sites, scenery and people on show in Albany-shot film Almost With You.
Many were shaking off rain as they entered the local premiere of Adam Morris’s Kinjarling Films production but soldiered on to see their city on the silver screen.
Set between Albany and Ireland, the romantic drama has as many local sites starring as it does local faces, with 200 extras featuring alongside Albany Shantymen, MJ Gibbs, the City of Albany Band, Albany Irish Session, Geoff Waldeck, and the SingAbility Choir.
Irish singer-songwriter Declan O’Rourke takes a starring turn as Brendan Kelly, putting on a moving performance as a grief-stricken musician who falls in love in the wake of his brother’s death.
Albany mayor Greg Stocks introduced the film, saying the council was happy to help fund Morris’ ambitious plan to make ten films in 10 years and this was the biggest in the saga yet.
