Albany Community Hospice Spinathon looking to raise $50,000 in 24-hour event at Hazbeanz Finestkind Coffee
Albany residents are gearing up to hop on their bikes for a good cause, with the much-loved Albany Community Hospice Spinathon set to return on March 7 and 8 in front of HazBeanz.
Organisers of the 24-hour event hope to raise $50,000 for the Albany Community Hospice and break last year’s record turnout of $49,000.
Albany Community Hospice chief executive Jackie Boyce said Spinathon was an important fundraiser for their organisation with money going towards people going through a palliative care journey.
“Spinathon has long been a key fundraising event for Albany Community Hospice, helping the delivery of high-quality, compassionate palliative care and that it remains available and accessible to those at times of need during their palliative care journey,” she said.
“You can ride as little as 30 minutes or join a team that are riding over the whole 24 hours.”
Several teams that have taken part in the Spinathon for many years are returning for this year’s iteration, including the Belles, Southern Salties, Team Marina and the City of Albany team.
This year, Tammy Bemben will be riding in her eighth Spinathon and is set to embark on the full 24 hours with her daughter, Millie, by her side.
Ms Boyce said the event always brings the community together.
“We are continuously overwhelmed by the community’s generosity and involvement with Spinathon which was started as a community fundraising initiative by Mark Greene over 10 years ago,” she said.
“This event is now in its fourth year as a 100 per cent Hospice event.
“Each team and rider contributes not just to the fundraising total, but to the community sense of pride for Hospice.”
