Budding Great Southern netball players and umpires to take part in Netball WA’s Fever in Time talent pathway

Five rising Great Southern netballers have been selected in Netball WA’s Fever in Time program after being identified for their flourishing potential at representative competitions. Denmark Magpies dynamic duo Nat Simpson and Mia Dominiak gained automatic entry into the Fever talent pathway after playing in the State school girls’ 15-and-under side earlier this year. Tall Kangas utilities Sophie Panizza and Keely Berry and athletic Narrikup shooter Courtney White were all selected for their brilliant performances at the Association Championships in Perth in June. The program aims to identify athletes, coaches and umpires who have shown strong potential with the aspiration of progressing through Netball WA’s talent pathways. The five athletes will be joined by umpires Jessamy Law-Davis and Mackenzie Sutherland from Albany and Katanning’s Britt Hanna in five trips to Perth over the next eight weeks to train in a squad consisting of players from Success and Fremantle. They will then play in the State Cup in September in a bid to be selected for the State 17s side. The players will also undertake strength and conditioning classes at the Great Southern Academy of Sport as they prepare for the State Cup. Netball WA membership and development co-ordinator for Great Southern Kelly Dominiak said the group’s selection was a testament not only to the athletes’ work ethic but also to the tireless efforts invested in developing netball talent in the region. “Absolutely (it is rewarding for the region) and it’s a great reward for effort from the region’s development program and Regional Academy of Sport program,” Dominiak said. “A lot of work has been done in the sport within the region by a lot of people, so it’s really good to get that reward. “Most of (the players) are wanting to work towards that State team squad.”
