Great Southern young gun Rory Luscombe boots five goals to help guide Claremont colts into WAFL grand final

Great Southern young gun Rory Luscombe has helped Claremont book a grand final berth in the WAFL colts competition, with a five-goal haul on Sunday. Ex-Royals forward Luscombe was part of the Tigers 63-point demolition of Subiaco in the second semifinal at Lane Group Stadium. Luscombe was outstanding in the 15.11 (101) to 5.8 (38) victory, part of a devastating forward combination with Cody Curtin. Curtin and Luscombe booted 11 goals between them as they progressed directly through to the grand final at Optus Stadium on September 22. It was Luscombe’s biggest return of the season, having kicked three goals on four previous occasions. The 18-year-old has kicked 25 goals in 15 colts games this season and looms as a pivotal part of the Tigers bid for a premiership in a fortnight. Luscombe finished with 5.1 from eight disposals and four marks in the finals win. Railways product Clay Michael, who has been swung to defence, finished with eight touches and three tackles in the second semifinal. The other Great Southern product to feature for the Tigers in the final was North Albany tall Lucas Ravenhill. Ravenhill was busy throughout with 13 possessions, six marks, five hitouts and 2.4 in front of the big sticks. Meanwhile Claremont’s reserves team also are through to the grand final after a second semifinal win over Subiaco at Lane Group Stadium on Sunday. Mt Barker’s Tristan Ballard was the only Great Southern player in the side, the key defender collected five touches and had five tackles in the 10-point win. Claremont’s league season came to a heartbreaking end, a late Peel Thunder goal finishing their campaign. Borden’s Anthony Davis stood tall with 14 disposals while Albany junior Kieran Gowdie had 10 touches, 10 hitouts and one goal in the one-point loss.
