Letter to the Editor: Albany Highway needs more overtaking lanes and better policing, writes Richard Norman

On a recent driving trip to Perth, I experienced a number of tailgating, speeding and outright insane events, both ways — north and south.

Heading south between Mt Barker and Albany, as a first car had (almost) completed over taking me, a second vehicle was overtaking the first, having crossed over a solid white line.

I estimated the first was doing 130km/h and the second was doing 150km/h while approaching the crest of a hill.

Dangerous to say the least!

Albany Highway needs more overtaking lanes and more policing.

Further, in overtaking lanes, perhaps the vehicle in the slow lane should reduce speed to 90km/h to allow more traffic to overtake, and therefore reduce the dubious necessity to tailgate and exceed the speed limit.
