Trailing by eight points at the end of the premiership quarter, the Eagles made the most of their last-ditch chances at one end while the Bombers squandered theirs at the other.

The visitors booted 1.3 in the last quarter, while the hosts snagged two straight goals to notch their second victory of the season, 11.9 (75) to 11.8 (74).

Star forward Caleb Keley was instrumental in his side’s triumph with six majors, including the sealer in the final minute to go one point clear ahead of their opposition.

His third six-goal haul tightens his grip on the top of the goal-kicking leaderboard, moving him nine goals clear of Gnowangerup forward Connor Smallwood.

The Eagles led at the first change of the back of a strong four-goal first quarter before the Bombers wrested back momentum in the second and third quarters to lead at each break.

Alex Baum played a key role alongside Clinton Pocock and Kym Brown, while Michael Lester was the other multiple goal kicker for the home side.

Boxwood were best served by Rohan Vaux (three goals), Brett Crabtree, Nic Bertola, Harrison Joy and Shane Davy (four).

Lake Grace-Pingrup defeated their 2023 grand final superiors for the first time this season, easing past Newdegate by 42 points at home on Saturday to shorten the gap on ladder leaders Gnowangerup.

The Bombers led at every change and were up by 52 points at the three-quarter-time on their way to the 14.13 (97) to 8.7 (55) victory.

Jackson Callope spearheaded the hosts attack with a bag of seven, while Luke Moore, Harris Regan and Brady Carruthers were their other main avenues to goal with two each.

Regan, Luke Bairstow and Mitchell Thornton were also instrumental in their fourth win of the season.

Jorrum Tucker, Lachlan Maples, Robert Fitzsimons and Ian Lloyd were crucial for the Lions in the loss.
