Remediation works are under way at the Albany Entertainment Centre, with the roof and external cladding being replaced with more durable material suited to the harsh sea-front environment.

Works started in August and are set to continue seven days a week for a 2027 completion.

The repairs, which is the latest in the $21.15 million State Government renovation project, involve the removal of the worn facade and roof and installation of a more durable anodised aluminium structure and fixings.

“Additional services to support safer and more efficient, ongoing maintenance” are also to be installed, according to a Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport statement.

“Following detailed engineering and building assessments, including climatic studies, a full replacement of the roof and facade cladding system was identified as the most effective long-term solution to enhance safety, building performance and ongoing maintenance.

“The remediation works will improve ongoing maintenance and maximise the building’s longevity.”

The cladding of the AEC, which is Albany’s premiere performing arts centre, has been noticeably damaged in recent years by strong winds and salt.

While scaffolding blankets the building, the work will not affect the operations of the AEC itself or the VIEW restaurant inside.

The DCITS statement does note there may be slight disruptions such as noticeable construction noise, limited parking availability, and temporary changes to access points.

The 620-seat venue was built in 2010 for $70m.
