A man has been charged with domestic violence murder after a young mother was allegedly found with gunshot wounds at her home.

Police were called to a Gold Coast home on Sunday evening, around 8pm, after reports that a woman had suffered life-threatening gunshot injuries.

Emergency services rushed to Loder Street at Biggera Waters, but Mallorie Jane was declared dead at the scene.

23-year-old Ethan Midgley was arrested without incident and has since been charged with domestic violence murder and unlawful possession of a weapon used to commit an indictable offence.

He will front Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.

“No other people were injured and there was no threat to the public,” a Queensland Police spokesperson said.

When emergency services and neighbours arrived to find Ms Jane, police say it was a “pretty confronting scene” and they “tried their very best” to provide CPR.

Detective Acting Inspector Leia Urquhart fronted the media on Monday, confirming police had allegedly found a “homemade” firearm, which they will allege Jane’s partner used to murder her.

The child was not home at the time, and was not related to the man that has been charged.

“Like so many others, I am heartbroken by the devastating loss of such a beautiful young mum,” close friend Haylee Harris wrote.

“Our hearts are shattered following the tragic loss of our beautiful Mallorie, whose life was taken far too soon.”

“Mallorie leaves behind her precious son, Tyson, a loving sister, and a family whose lives have been changed forever. She was deeply loved and will be remembered for her beautiful heart, kind spirit, and the love she had for those around her.

“Rest peacefully, beautiful Mallorie. You will always be loved, remembered, and never forgotten.”
