Five students from Candance Dance Studio Bunbury headed up to Perth on December 12 to take part in the Australian Dancing Society’s annual State Super Star Spectacular competition.

Featuring ballroom and Latin-style dancing, the students put their best feet forward and danced their way through the day, returning to Bunbury with an array of competition medals

Candance Dance Studio Bunbury teacher Collette Howard said she was extremely proud of the students and how well they had performed.

“Candance has been running for 14 years but the students are now participating in dance sport competitions,” she said.

“Being in the South West, we are at a bit of a disadvantage.

“Part of the competition is based around the connection the students have with their partners, and because our numbers are so small, the students don’t have set partners and have to dance with people they have never met before.

“Considering this, I think the students did so well.”

It’s such a wonderful feeling seeing the smiles on their faces when they return from competitions with medals.

Ms Howard said there was a possibility for her students to perform at the Special Olympics in Tasmania in 2022.

“At the moment, the students train two days a week,” she said.

“We are looking for ballroom dancers to join the group and help the students continue to improve so we can compete in more competitions.

“It’s such a wonderful feeling seeing the smiles on their faces when they return from competitions with medals.

“It makes all their hard work and effort worth it.”
