A potential coronavirus vaccine being developed by a team of experts at the University of Oxford will be trialled on people from today.

With the UK Government “throwing everything” at developing a COVID-19 vaccine, Professor Nigel Crawford from Murdoch Children’s Research Institute will speak to The West Live host Jenna Clarke about the groundbreaking trial and its chance of success.

Oxford University scientists, who are working with a separate team at Imperial College in London on the experimental vaccine, expect to produce a million doses as early as September.

That is months ahead of the 12 to 18-month timeline quoted by experts around the world.

Prof Crawford will also speak about another possible COVID-19 vaccine being investigated closer to home - the tuberculosis vaccine trial being led by the Telethon Kids Institute in Perth.

More than 2500 healthcare workers are now enrolled in three states for the vaccine test, which could reduce their chance of contracting COVID-19.

Plus, Australian Medical Association of WA president Dr Andrew Miller will discuss why he believes a vaccine is actually more than four years away.
