Waylon Brendan Jennings: Bail refused for man who allegedly locked tenants out of own home after knife threat

A man has been refused bail after denying breaking into a company share house in Lamington where he allegedly pulled out a knife and locked two of the tenants out. Waylon Brendan Jennings, 43, appeared in Kalgoorlie Magistrates Court on Thursday via video link from custody, where he pleaded not guilty to aggravated home burglary and commit, and being armed or pretending to be armed in a way that may cause fear. Prosecuting Const. Kim Sullivan said at 5.41pm on July 17, 2025, Mr Jennings had allegedly entered an engineering service’s share house of six through the front door but was soon confronted by one of the five tenants who were inside at the time, who had heard the man entering. The officer said the victim asked the man what he was doing in the house, which led to Mr Jennings allegedly pulling out a large kitchen knife and shouting “come here”. The court was told the victim yelled out to another housemate who then saw Mr Jennings, before they exited the home and called the police. Const. Sullivan said Mr Jennings had allegedly followed the tenants through the house to the exit door and locked them out. Const. Sullivan said police arrived at the home shortly after and arrested the man who told officers, “You can’t charge me with burglary, I didn’t steal anything”. Despite Mr Jennings’ defence lawyer Leneva Polmear asking for her client to be placed on bail with strict conditions, Magistrate William Yoo refused it, outlining the man’s criminal history. Mr Jennings was fined in the same hearing, after pleading guilty to trespassing into GK Hair & Co. on Hannan Street at 2am on December 12, 2025. The matters for which Mr Jennings pleaded not guilty will proceed to the Kalgoorlie District Court in May.
