Woman accused of stealing from Mandurah Mustangs Junior Football Club pleads not guilty to 224 charges

A woman accused of stealing from a junior Mandurah football club has pleaded not guilty to the hundreds of charges she is facing. Leanne Lillian Withers, 59, appeared in Mandurah Magistrates Court on May 20, where she entered her pleas for each of the 224 charges of stealing as a servant. She is alleged to have stolen from the Mandurah Mustangs Junior Football Club while she was an employee there between March 15, 2019, and October 18, 2021, in Golden Bay. During the court hearing, the amount of money she is alleged to have stolen for each charge was read out, which ranged from $30 to $2500. Ms Withers is listed on a club webpage as serving as its secretary in 2022. She will next appear in court on July 2. The Mandurah Mustangs Junior Football Club is the second local junior sport club this year to be rocked by allegations a staff member stole money. On May 6, former Peel Districts Little Athletics Centre president Cristy Maree Morrison was fined and sentenced to a seven-month conditionally suspended prison term after pleading guilty to 128 charges of stealing as a servant while she was at the club.
