A 46-year-old man has been charged over a brazen daylight diamond heist in Perth’s western suburbs among a string of robberies.

The rampage began on Thursday morning when a man with his face covered and armed with a crowbar robbed Subiaco jewellery store Diamond Collective about 10.35am.

Police say the man demanded jewellery and cash before stealing several items and running away.

The man allegedly struck again on Thursday night — this time in the CBD — when he went into a Hay Street liquor store armed with a hammer just before 6.30pm.

Police will allege he threatened a worker at the store with the hammer and demanded cash, to which the worker refused.

The man fled the scene before hitting another Hay Street business — a fast food outlet — less than an hour later at 7.15pm.

He allegedly threatened a staff member with a hammer before demanding cash and leaving with the stolen money.

Police swarmed the area on Thursday night as they searched for the culprit with the help of the police canine unit.

Rapid Apprehension Squad detectives caught up with the 46-year-old about 8.10pm, when he was arrested at an Adelaide Terrace hotel.

The man was refused bail and charged with two counts of armed robbery and one count of attempted armed robbery.

He is due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday.
