Two men questioned after man found dead on popular Fremantle street, homicide detectives investigating

Homicide detectives are investigating after a man was found dead on a popular street in Fremantle. Emergency services rushed to the scene after a man, aged in his 60s, was found unresponsive on South Terrace, near Douglas Street, about 2.05am on Saturday. He was rushed to Fiona Stanley Hospital, where he later died. Two men, aged in their 20s, were arrested at the scene and are being questioned by police. There was a strong police presence at the scene on Saturday morning, with detectives and forensic officers taking photographs and probing the area for clues. Several loose items, including a plastic bag and a rubber glove, could be seen on the street in front of a residential property. South Terrace local George Sanderson-Brown said he woke up to loud screaming at about 2am. “I go outside from my front door. I hear screaming down the road, down Douglas Street… I’m like, ‘Oh, I don’t know what’s happening; it might be a party,” he said. “I come back out to the bathroom, and I see flashing lights (and I’m like) the police are here. “I walk out the front door, ask the cop what’s happening, and he’s like, ‘Don’t worry about it, mate, it’s all under control.” He described the screams as “aggressive” and said he also heard people fighting. “The scream was like someone’s hurt, not like fun screaming or like someone’s drunk,” he said. “(It was) like a deep scream, like it came from the heart … and it actually hurts. “There were three screams, like someone like yelling at someone, but the other person was screaming in agony.” South Terrace between Price Street and South Street has been closed.
