Geraldton man fighting for his life in RPH’s ICU after alleged assault, detectives investigating altercation

A Geraldton man is fighting for his life in Royal Perth Hospital after an alleged assault on Friday night.

Geraldton detectives are investigating the incident which has left a 43-year-old man in a critical condition after an alleged altercation.

On Friday, May 15, at about 9.40pm, police say they were called to the Geraldton suburb of Deepdale to investigate an incident allegedly involving the victim and a 22-year-old man.

Police said the 43-year-old man was airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital after the 22-year-old man allegedly assaulted him, causing severe injuries.

The 22-year-old man from Utakarra has been remanded in custody and charged with one count of grievous bodily harm.

He appeared in the Geraldton Magistrates Court on Sunday, May 17 and will next appear on June 18.

A spokesperson from Royal Perth Hospital said the man was in a critical condition and was currently in the intensive care unit.

The 43-year-old man’s family has been contacted for comment.
