The incredible run of Katanning speedway star Kye Blight continues, after he secured his maiden State crown in the late model sedan division, which he has dominated since December.

Blight added the WA Late Model Championship to his national title victory after a gripping 30-lap feature race at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday night.

Starting from position nine on the grid, Blight had to work hard in the A-main as he hustled his way into the top five and then set about getting to the lead.

The national champion hit the front on lap 12 and never looked back as he avoided any trouble and crossed the line 1.662 seconds ahead of Warren Oldfield while Ryan Halliday filled third place.

The victory was Blight’s seven consecutive feature race success to show his dominance in the late model division, where he is now the national and State titleholder in the same season.

Twenty-seven cars contested the WA championship but Blight’s barnstorming run that included a clean sweep at Albany’s Attwell Park Speedway and winning the USA Invasion Tour series keeps rolling on.

“The past couple of months have been pretty surreal for us,” Blight said.

“We have had a phenomenal Longhorn race car, worked really hard and had a heap of fun.

“I love this team, there is no quit in any one of them.”

The event was also the final race for Blight this season having sold his highly successful car, and now his team preparing for the 2020-21 season.
