Broomehill cleans up to climb the ladder

Broomehill jumped into the top four of the Great Southern Cricket Association standings after a convincing win over the winless Australs-Woodanilling in round 11 last Saturday. Broomehill sat fifth on the ladder heading into the round, but the third-placed Kendenup went down and the fourth-placed Wanderers had a bye, helping Broomehill leap up the ladder. An outstanding effort with the ball restricted the winless Australs-Woodanilling to just 97, as Ethan Caldwell and Sam Richardson ripped through the batting line-up. Caldwell and Richardson teamed up to take 5-2 to leave their opponents with plenty of work to do. Australs-Woodanilling slipped to 3-8 early on after Caldwell opened the bowling with immediate success. Phillip Pink and Tyrone Roe combined for 32 runs before both were removed in the same over by Brandon Wise to leave their side 5-40. Damian Barnes (24) pushed his side towards 100 but when he fell, two teammates followed quickly after to leave their side in further bother at 8-80. Richardson claimed two of those wickets before Caldwell finished the innings, taking the final wicket as Australs/Woodanilling set them 98 to win. Caldwell returned the impressive figures of 3-1 off 3.4 overs with two maidens while Richardson was just as effective with 2-1 off four overs that included three maidens. Broomehill’s top four made light work of the run chase, securing victory in just over 20 overs. Andrew Gibbons and Steve Irvine put on 61 together to set up the innings, before Gibbons was caught with his side cruising at 2-75. Wise (18 not out) and Irvine (36 not out) guided their side home, finishing on 2-101 and securing a vital win for their finals aspirations.
