Comfortable win helps Wanderers climb back to top spot, Botha stars for Cougars and Eagles claim second win

Katanning Wanderers jumped back to the top of the Upper Great Southern Football League ladder after winning their sixth game of the season on Saturday, defeating Wickepin at Quartermaine Oval. The Wanderers were comfortable 50-point winners over the Warriors in round seven. Hayden Yarran starred in the victory with seven goals as his side bounced back on to the winners’ list. Six goals to two in the second half secured the convincing win. Wanderers extended their 13-point quarter-time lead to four goals at the main break. However, the third stanza proved decisive for the home side as they added four goals to stretch their advantage to 40 points heading into the final term. Scoring dried up in the final term, allowing Wanderers to run out impressive 14.10 (94) to 6.8 (44) winners. Wanderers captain James Laurino was awarded the game ball in the Talk To A Mate Round after his brilliant midfield display. Kade Stewart was impressive also in the win with two goals while Caleb Keley and Reece Nicholson were also influential Jaxon Ramsay and Ryan Melvin booted two goals each for the Warriors and were joined in the best by Matthew Jukes, Ricky Cary and Ryan Duffy. A superb 10-goal performance from Eric Botha guided Kukerin-Dumbleyung to a 21-point victory over Wagin in Wagin on Sunday. Botha took his season tally to 35 goals as his team kicked nine goals to four in the second half to win 15.6 (96) to 12.3 (75). The Bulldogs led by two goals at half time but despite the best efforts of Alex Michelon (five goals), Tim Pocock, Mark Allington and Kyle Hamersley, they fell short. The Cougars recorded their fifth win of the season with Botha winning the match ball while Ryan Smith, Nathan Phillips and Jordan Jackson were also vital in the win. Boddington won their second game of the season after narrowly defeating Narrogin by 12 points on Saturday. Six goals in the second term helped the Eagles prevail, 17.12 (114) to 15.12 (102). Curtis Hansen kicked five goals in the win while Harry Ellis and Jarryd Calver added three each. The Hawks were best served by Ross Daley, Ryan Gray and Jack Walsh.
