Dual Subiaco premiership star Justin Joyce has returned home to Kukerin-Dumbleyung in the Upper Great Southern Football League

Dual WAFL premiership star Justin Joyce will be a major inclusion for his hometown club Kukerin-Dumbleyung this season, as they look to return to finals action in the Upper Great Southern Football League. Cougars player-coach Ryan Taylor believes his side will be a lot more competitive this season given their off-season additions. The Cougars will have a handful of new players for the upcoming season that begins this Saturday, with their round one fixture against Wickepin on Sunday. Joyce made 58 league appearances for Subiaco along with 33 reserves and 13 colts game over nine seasons at WAFL level and has been a part of their past two league premierships, collecting 18 and 17 touches respectively. Throughout his league career, the 27-year-old averaged more than 16 disposals and three marks a game. Former Claremont league and reserves player Jalen McGee will also join the Cougars after managing five league matches for the Tigers last season. Richard Watts, Matthew Dare, Stephen Capelli and Scott Ward are also inclusions for the 2020 season while they are hoping to gain Darcy Boyle back from injury mid-way through. The Cougars’ only major loss will be Jarrad Doney, last year’s Landmark Medal winner as the fairest and best player in the division 1 grand final at the Landmark Country Football Championships. Doney, who won the Cougars’ league fairest and best award from a handful of games, has moved to South Fremantle in the WAFL. Taylor said he was looking forward to the season. “I think we will be a lot more competitive this season,” he said. “We have a few new players so until we get out there it’s a bit of an unknown but I’m excited. “Training has been good and everyone is starting to get keener with the season coming closer. “We are starting to ramp things up. It’s just good to be back playing footy.” Damon Joyce and Justin Joyce along with cousin Pete Joyce and McGee are set to be key players, according to Taylor.
