Dumbleyung Theatre Club gears up to deliver third instalment of epic local trilogy in August

The Dumbleyung Theatre Club has been busy rehearsing the final instalment of its unique and ambitious Dongalee theatrical trilogy, Dongalee Bed & Breakfast, a local tale that began with the performance of Bring a Plate in 2009. “We love the story because it’s localised,“ playwright and director Michele Brown said. “Everyone that lives in the country can relate to the story.” The series explores relationships, change, country communities and life across multiple generations, in a humorous and heartfelt way. In the third instalment to be shown in August the play’s recurring characters will be brought to life by a cast of Dumbleyung locals including Nick Green, Rod Frost and Laura Bartram. “It’s a story of farming life,” Bartram said. “A story of many women that live here that have come from the city.” The play is responsive to happenings in the local community and to the lives of the ensemble. “A few events that happen in Dumbleyung we write into the story,” Brown said. “There was a wedding in Dumbleyung where one of the local boys let off a fire extinguisher which was a little bit naughty and we put that into the last show.” Brown wrote the plays along with Jackie Ball. “Once you get a team together, these projects just start to grow,” Brown said. “More lines get added and more characters get added, I call it a living script.” The Friday evening showing of Dongalee Bed & Breakfast at the Dumbleyung Town Hall will be just as epic as the tale as tables of family and friends will be treated to a night of live music, food and theatre. “We’ve got a live band coming from Narrogin, Drinks and Tips, and a buffet,” Brown said. “In the ticket, you’re getting a band, a show and a meal — when we have a night, it’s a great night, everyone comes together and has a great time.” Tickets for the sole performance of Dongalee Bed & Breakfast on August 5 can be purchased here.
