Five-year-old mare Hoolahoops scores dominant victory in Albany for Wagin trainer Angela Smith
Wagin trainer Angela Smith recorded her first victory of the season in dominant fashion as Hoolahoops scored an easy win at Percy Spencer Racecourse in Albany on Saturday.
Hoolahoops proved far too strong for her rivals in the Mark Blyth Jewellery Fashions On The Field Handicap (1500m) on Ladies Day.
The five-year-old mare had run fourth at her past two runs since returning from a spell but produced a superb turn of foot for jockey Beaux Banovic-Edwards at her third run this campaign.
After settling at the rear, Hoolahoops went around the entire field on the turn and let down superbly to storm to an impressive 3-length victory.
Hoolahoops registered a third win from 27 career starts and handed Smith her first win in the 2021-22 season.
“Very honest little mare who rarely finishes out of top five every race she runs in,” Smith said.
“I thought she was very impressive coming from last at the top of the straight and running a sensational last 600m and giving a small group of owners their first winner,” she said.
Smith had five runners entered on the eight-race program, with Danehill Storm finishing third in race six while Family Connection ran 12th in the feature race, the $40,000 Pelicans Ladies Bracelet.
