The Upper Great Southern Football League has confirmed its fixtures for the 2022 season with the majority of games being played on Sundays and the new campaign officially kicking off in May. The first round of fixtures will all be played on Sunday May 1 with Wickepin to host Williams, Kukerin-Dumbleyung at home against Boddington, Narrogin up against Katanning and Wagin facing Brookton-Pingelly. The Wanderers will again have their sights set on another grand final appearance after claiming last year’s decider in epic fashion. UGSFL’s grand final rotation policy remains in place, with the biggest game of the year to be contested at Williams on September 4. A total of 37 fixtures will be played on Sundays with 19 of the games to be played on Saturdays and there will be three rounds where all four matches are played on Sunday — round one, round two and round 14. The competition will continue its top-four finals system, with two semifinals being played on August 20 and 21, followed by the preliminary final on August 28. Fans of Williams and Katanning will have to wait until round six for the much-anticipated grand final replay, with the two teams facing off against each other on Sunday, June 5 at the Cats’ home ground. Newly-appointed Upper Great Southern Football League president Kim Melvin said the prospect of an uninterrupted season was exciting. “It will be nice for the season to not be disrupted and hopefully as it is now, we continue to have crowds without any more positive tests coming through,” Melvin said. The league fixture will contain two bye rounds, the first coming in the third week of June for the Great Southern Colts Carnival and the second three weeks later from July 8-10 for the annual Country Football Championships in Perth.
