A Frankland River producer has been recognised for having the best olive oil in WA.

The Frankland River Olive Company, best known for its olive oil brand Jingilli, was awarded the best oil of show trophy at the 2021 Olive Awards.

Judges described the Great Southern company’s olive oil as having a “lovely, complex nose of herbs and tomato” and flavours with “a hint of pine”, resulting in a “delicious, complex oil”.

Jingilli edged out 99 other participants to take the top award at the annual event, which came as WA records one of its best olive harvests in recent memory.

The awards featured a 65 per cent increase in entries on last year’s show.

The Gardner Family Farm from Brookton was also recognised on the night with a premium gold award.

Internationally trained olive oil taster Isabelle Okis led the judging panel and said the best oils at this year’s show were “world-class”.

“The winning oils were exciting, memorable and world-class. The flavours were beautiful and left the palate really clean, with long, lingering flavours,” she said.
