GSCA 2024-25: Senior grade changes to full coloured kits, white balls and T20s in bid for participation boost

The Great Southern Cricket Association has swung multiple changes to its senior competition, moving to full-coloured kits, white balls and T20 games in a bid to boost participation numbers. All teams in the senior competition will wear full colours and play with a white ball with each club playing five T20 matches throughout the 15-game regular season. GSCA president Jack Batchelor said the decision was made to create more exciting games and make it an inviting spectacle for people in the region to watch. “The driving factor was definitely participation and trying to make our game in the GSCA more exciting and more enticing for people around the community to get involved in, particularly in junior cricket,” he said. “In terms of the senior cricket we really wanted to play with white balls and there were a couple of different motives, but the main one was participation. “The (added spectacle) is the other thing, that’s the reason we have brought some T20 games into our competition, trying to make the game more exciting. “Juniors aren’t going to colours just yet, but that’s definitely the pipeline.” The move was also to align with the Belt-Up Country Cup and country week cricket which has adopted coloured kits and white balls. “Obviously country week’s moving in line with the Country XI carnivals and the Belt-Up Cup and we thought it was best to be ahead of the game and try and join in with that,” Batchelor said. The season will start on October 18 with T20 fixtures in the opening round.
