IN PICTURES: Culture and harmony in focus at Our Home, Our Heart, Our Stories collection in Katanning

A unique and powerful installation showcasing culture, history and community has become one of the Katanning Art Gallery’s all-time best-attended exhibitions. The Our Home, Our Heart, Our Stories exhibition features 20 400x400mm glass cubes filled by 20 community members with images and objects that give viewers insight into the cultural diversity that Katanning is renowned for. “The idea for the cubes came from a Harmony Committee brainstorming session,” Art gallery co-ordinator James Wood said. “People filled cases with stories that mean something to them, whether it’s their past or a recollection of their ancestors — stories of people in town.” The exhibition opened on March 14 with an International Women’s Week event that saw Katanning women gather to share stories of connection and contribution before a panel discussion chaired by Shire of Katanning president Kristy D’Aprile took place at the Katanning Town Hall. The exhibition is open at the gallery between 10am and 5pm Monday and Tuesday, 1-5pm on Wednesday, 10am to 5pm on Thursday and 10am to 1pm on Saturday. Our Home, Our Heart, Our Stories closes on March 30.
