The spirit of Christmas filled Katanning’s Clive Street on Sunday night as the town’s churches hosted Carols by Candlelight. Carols rang out from 7.30pm, punctuated by the giggles and screams of children playing in the town square. Primary school students shared the story of the nativity, a reminder that Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Guests were asked to bring an item of food with them to the event. Towards the end of the night, the food was collected to make up hampers for families in need. The festive spirit lingered after the event, with Christmas lights dotting the streets around Katanning. The Katanning Hub Community Resource Centre has organised a Christmas lights competition with nearly $1000 worth of gift vouchers up for grabs. One entry on Pemble Street has to be among the contenders, with an array of lights, inflatables and projections enhanced by a Christmas soundtrack. The winner is due to be announced on Monday.
