Invaders take out tour’s top two
The DiCandilo Steel City USA Invasion Tour has come to an end, with the final two rounds taking place last Friday in Collie and Saturday in Albany.
Katanning’s Kye Blight returned home with a lap record, for having the fastest qualifying time of 14.760 in Albany, but a flat tyre forced him to leave the race early.
He also placed fifth in Collie for the Late Models, with USA’s Tyler Erb in first place and Australia’s Craig Vosbergen in second.
Erb took out the win the following night in Albany, with Jason Fitzgerald of USA in second, and Ryan Fenech from NSW in third place.
Erb, Fenech and Victoria’s Cameron Pearson spent two nights in Katanning last week, maintaining their vehicles at Blight’s Auto Electrics as they prepared for the last two rounds of the tour.
Pearson said it was important to check their engines and to know the inside of the vehicle.
“You never know what to expect when racing, so in between races we try and service it and check the engine when we can,” he said.
Erb said the highlight of the tour was being able to race at the Perth Motorplex.
“It’s such an amazing facility. It was really cool to race there in front of so many people,” he said.
“We wanted thank Late Model Racing for hosting the event.”
Erb was the winner for the tour, followed by fellow American Jason Fitzgerald, with Australia’s Paul Stubber placing third and Kye Blight fourth.
