The Katanning Bowling Club will host its first Men’s Invitational Fours one-day carnival this month and men’s captain Damien Perrett is hoping a good crowd will underpin the competition becoming an annual event. “If you’ve got four friends anyone can play, you don’t have to be affiliated with a club,” he said. “There’ll be three great games of 14 ends, meals are provided, it’s pretty relaxed.” Slated for February 21, a nomination fee of $140 per team will cover green fees, morning and afternoon tea and lunch. “We’ve been here for a couple of years now,” Perrett said. “We’ve had the Inter League here, the women have had their classic here a couple of times but we haven’t really had a one-day carnival.” KBC hosted the Southern Country Zone Inter League Men’s Round Robin Fours in January last year and three ladies classics have taken place at the country club since a $2.5 million redevelopment was completed in 2022. “Back in the day they used to have the Golden Bowl at the old club, that was a three-day comp,” Perrett said. “It’s a good money earner for the club and people get to play on our brand new green. “If we fill all the spots we might end up making it a two-day comp.” Rink wins will be in play and the competition will pay first, second and third place. “Hopefully we get a couple more teams from around the place,” Perrett said. “We’ve got one team from Albany, one from Mt Barker, two from Broomehill and one from Koji. “There are 24 spaces and we’ve filled half of them.” Play starts at 9.30am on February 21 and the nomination form is available on the Katanning Country Club Facebook page.
