A disused school accommodation facility on Katanning’s north-eastern outskirts has been damaged by vandals in recent weeks. Katanning Residential College on Round Drive has been left with broken windows and damaged equipment after what authorities have described as children “running amok’. Glaziers spent the day at the college on April 5 replacing broken windows. As of Monday, only the windows to a shed on the site were still to be repaired. Katanning Police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Carlos Correia said police believed the damage had been caused over several weeks. “We think the damage has occurred over a period of four to five weeks,” he said. “The college is obviously vacant and kids are going there because it is vacant and they are getting up to a bit of trouble.” Katanning Residential College, previously known as St Andrew’s Hostel, has been closed since 2009. Anyone with information on the vandalism is asked to call Katanning Police on 9821 3800.
